Canoeing the Shenandoah River with Mom

One of my favorite things to do in the summer is canoeing with my son on the Shenandoah River. This beautiful stretch of river is snuggled next to the Blue Ridge Mountains and filled with wildlife. Nothing reminds you how fast they grow like spending time with them on the river. We have been going on these half day river trips in WV since he was 3 years old and we look forward to it every year.

Paddling with your children is a very special time for family. While growing up this is something that my family never did together.  sometimes feel like I missed out on the precious family time. However, this pushes me to be sure that my son gets every opportunity to hit the water with his mom. He is getting older every day and it seems as though I am getting busier and busier but this experience is something that will last him and myself a lifetime, so we don't plan on stopping anytime soon!

Paddling with your children can be very safe but it can also be very dangerous. If you have no experience please be sure to take the trip with a qualified West Virginia outfitter. This helps to ensure you are on a proper section of river for your experience level and that you have all the necessary equipment. Also be sure to choose a trip that isn't too long if you have little ones. A trip that is too long can go from lots of fun to your worst nightmare quickly. Don't forget the camera because you are sure to have many moments you will want to capture during your adventure. Before you know it, you may have to force them to go with you!

See you on the river.....Kandee
